The building plans have continued for our new production lines, moving from erecting steel and brick walls to installation of the processing equipment. The new designs of three additional production lines are now in the last stages of installation.
Moving into the summer months, the Silva global team is monitoring the plantings of bell peppers and tomatoes after having supervised and observed the spring harvest of spinach. Our partner growers have largely finished a satisfactory harvest of spring crop spinach.
During the first week of May, upper management at Silva—together with the global procurement and quality teams—spent a few days together at our corporate U.S. headquarters in Momence, Illinois. The group reviewed the 2013/14 crop year, as well as agreeing on priorities and goals for the 2014/15 year.
Silva’s U.S. production facilities have been certified to process organic ingredients by Quality Assurance International (QAI), the leading USDA-accredited certifying agency. Because of this, we will be able to offer certified organic versions of some of our most popular ingredients.
We are on target with our timeline to update our production facility in Illinois as construction has begun. The design of the three new production rooms has been completed, the best-suited processing equipment is being built, and walls of the production areas are being erected.
First achieved in 2012, Silva has maintained an “A” rating from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standards in 2013, continuing in our commitment to the highest standards and highest quality products. Det Norsk Veritas completed Silva’s annual BRC audit on November 1, 2013.
