The Quality Assurance Audit Specialist will help implement and maintain production-related activities to meet FDA and GFSI FSSC 22000 requirements. This role supports behavior-based food safety culture in conjunction with the Quality Plant Manager, QA Supervisor, and QA Technicians. Responsibilities include the continuous improvement of the Food Safety and Quality Control programs.

  • Responsible for Food Safety & Quality and Safety culture using positive approaches for improvement opportunities through internal monitoring, audits, and daily interactions with employees across all departments.
  • Support Plant Quality Team and Office Quality Team for non-conforming product, raw materials, and packaging through Hold & Release program. Generate certificate of destruction forms as needed.
  • Actively participate in cross functional teams at start up and during the shift. Effectively communicate to the next shift any open items that require immediate follow-up.
  • Audit the equipment set up and processing parameters through direct observation of Production Batch Records/ SOPs. Resolve any issues with Production Leadership.
  • Assist in Corrective Action Preventive Action program, Hold Log, and other Quality Registers.
  • Assist in leading customer complaint investigations and internal deviations with concise verbal and written communication.
  • Develop training material and provide refresher training for non-conformances of procedures across all departments.
  • Verify CAPA effectiveness through direct observations, data review, and interpret trends using Root Cause Analysis and other CAPA tools.
  • Support Sanitation Effectiveness programs and audits through pre-op inspections, ATP, EMP testing, environmental contamination investigations, micro investigations, start up and changeover procedures.
  • Ability to create One Point Lessons, develop training, and support on the job training by observing employees perform new and/or revised procedures.
  • Identify trends through data analysis and follow up with the development and implementation of improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure all food safety related documents, daily verification records, and document control are checked while identifying and closing gaps while on the floor.
  • Responsible for reporting any food safety and quality problems to Quality and Production Leadership with authority to initiate action.
  • Responsible for scheduling and assisting in food safety and safety internal audits with a cross functional team. Support audit preparation and follow-up as required. Verify effectiveness of compliance through a review of the objective evidence.
  • Provide back up support for Quality Technicians, Lead, or Supervisor.
  • Assist Quality Plant Manager, Quality Supervisor, and Silva Operations with other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to speak and write in English, Spanish speaking ability preferred
  • Basic knowledge of a Food Manufacturing environment, food safety and quality cGMPs, Food Safety Plan and HACCP Plans.
  • Training and working experience with HACCP, cGMP’s, GFSI, FSMA, and Sanitation Effectiveness Monitoring.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, databases, and custom programs.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, time management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Reliable mode of transportation to travel between facilities.

This is a full-time, hourly non-exempt position (base pay range = $20.75-$23.50/hour; job offer to be commensurate with candidate experience) with benefits package that includes paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401k retirement plan with employer match, employee assistance program, employer gift-matching program, wellness program, and company-paid holidays.
