The Safety Assistant will support the Safety Department to accomplish Safety Departmental goals. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in developing, organizing, conducting, and evaluating training programs and procedures.
  • Assist in designing and continually developing methods (safety observations/audits) for appraising Safety conditions in warehouses, factories, or offices.
  • Inspect working conditions to ensure all products and activities are compliant with Safety guidelines.
  • Write reports detailing observation and audit findings and maintain safety action list.
  • Suggest modifications to production methods and employee activity that does not meet health and Safety standards.
  • Isolate defective and unsafe products and machinery and put out of service until necessary modifications are complete.
  • Assist in running emergency drills to gauge employee readiness.
  • Address any workplace-related health issues and incidents.
  • Assist in developing corrective action plans with Safety Steering Committee.
  • Work alongside managers/employees on EHS concerns.
  • Assist in writing and revising company Safety programs, Safety training, and Safety audits as necessary.
  • Attend Employee Occupational Health Clinic visits as Company Representative.
  • Follow-up with injured Employees and document relevant information pertaining to Employee injuries.
  • Complete all company safety metric reporting as instructed.
  • Provide or assist with Safety training.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates broad knowledge of state and federal Safety guidelines for the workplace.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with job site machinery and products.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively and pays close attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates competence in public speaking and presenting information clearly.
  • Exhibits strong organizational skills, problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work at all levels within an organization and the ability to work in a diverse work group.
  • Strong PC skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and strong writing skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to remain calm and cool-headed in the event of an emergency.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. with single person lift
  • Climbing (ladders, stairs, etc.)
  • Bending and stooping
  • Extended periods of being on your feet

This is a full-time, hourly position on Day Shift with benefits package that includes paid vacation, health insurance, dental, vision, and 401k retirement plan with generous employer match. Some weekend availability may be required.
