Silva International Inc. had been accredited under the GFSI’s BRC Global Standard for Food Safety since 2010, and officially moved to both a new certification body with SAI Global and new accreditation scheme in FSSC22000 in 2015.
With spring arriving in the northern hemisphere, our growers are preparing for the harvest of spinach, planted this winter. Our partners are also active in planting the summer crops, such as celery, leek, and peas. Plantings of bell peppers and tomatoes will follow later this spring.
As the general food industry continues to desire options with organic products, Silva continues to grow our offering of organically grown and processed dried vegetable ingredients for our customers. We have added additional organic products—along with advanced organic vegetable powder production.
The building plans have continued for our new production lines, moving from erecting steel and brick walls to installation of the processing equipment. The new designs of three additional production lines are now in the last stages of installation.
Moving into the summer months, the Silva global team is monitoring the plantings of bell peppers and tomatoes after having supervised and observed the spring harvest of spinach. Our partner growers have largely finished a satisfactory harvest of spring crop spinach.
During the first week of May, upper management at Silva—together with the global procurement and quality teams—spent a few days together at our corporate U.S. headquarters in Momence, Illinois. The group reviewed the 2013/14 crop year, as well as agreeing on priorities and goals for the 2014/15 year.
